What to Expect
Face to Face in Hove & Online
Face-to-face sessions take place in calm, comfortable, and confidential therapy rooms in Hove. Meeting in person can give you both a space away from the familiarity or noise of home, creating a pause and a clear boundary around your time together. For some couples, the journey to and from therapy becomes part of the process — a way to leave the day behind before arriving and to reflect afterwards before returning to everyday life.
Online or telephone sessions can also work well, particularly if you’re based outside Brighton & Hove, have tight schedules, or simply feel more comfortable connecting this way. Ideally, both partners join from the same location, but if this isn’t possible it’s perfectly okay to dial in from separate places, as long as confidentiality and safety are maintained. The most important element is consistency, so I generally meet couples at the same time and day each week to provide a steady and supportive rhythm.

How Relationship Counselling for Couples Helps
Couples counselling offers a confidential and supportive space for you both to explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges together. It’s a collaborative process — I work alongside you to help uncover patterns, gain insight, and find ways to make meaningful changes in your relationship.
In our sessions, we’ll talk about your experiences as a couple — the ways you communicate, the patterns that show up, and the recurring challenges that may feel stuck. Sometimes past experiences, individually or together, continue to influence how you relate to one another, often in ways you might not fully notice. Bringing these patterns into awareness can open the door to understanding and choice.
Many couples come with specific challenges, and counselling can support you in navigating key issues such as affairs, changes in life circumstances like redundancy or career transitions, infertility and childlessness, endings, or general feelings of disconnect or stuckness. Whatever the difficulty, the focus is on creating a safe and confidential space to explore and process these experiences together.
Counselling can also bring up difficult emotions — grief, anger, frustration, or anxiety. This is normal, and part of the work is creating a safe environment where these feelings can be expressed and processed without judgment.
Over time, this exploration helps both partners develop greater insight, emotional resilience, and a deeper understanding of themselves and each other. The process can lead to responding differently in your relationship, with more awareness, connection, and a sense of shared empowerment.
